Contributing to my penis size anxiety video

What it's all about

I believe penis size anxiety is a significant body dysmorphic mental health issue fuelled by a skewed vision of what is 'normal'. Apparently the vast majority of men lie about their size - the average penis size in self-reported studies is almost an inch bigger than in clinically measured studies. The falsehoods that are spread (by men themselves and by porn) drive up our perception of what is 'normal', and so drives more men into the "I'm less than normal" perception.

In tackling this issue, I'm looking to establish a more normal view – and that's what my poem Shorty is all about.

Read the "My Small Penis" poem here

To manage this I need a lot of people to listen to (and enjoy!) the poem, so I want to make a video for it that will be so compelling it gets lots and lots of views, shares etc…

So I'm trying to achieve two things:
  • A compelling, funny video
  • A true representation of the spread of penis sizes
If I can get 48 men to send me an honest, but funny, image then we're collectively saying to the world "size doesn't matter to any of us" - which should encourage others to feel the same.

What makes a good contribution?

Now, whilst openness, honesty and clarity are critical here it's also important that the video has wide appeal. This means I can't use photographs of actual penises, that would restrict the video's distribution and actually the titillation factor would distract from the message. Also comedy (to make the video compelling) thrives on symbolism.

Obviously it's hard to be totally honest when using symbolism, but this is a compromise that I think is needed.

So what does a good photo for the video look like? Here's an example:

Tall man holding ukelele

Why This works

Because we can see who it is the image carries honesty.
The visual metaphor is strong since 'instrument' is a well known synonym for penis.
The overall image is funny because uninformed expectation is that a big guy ought to have a big 'instrument'.

How can I contribute

e-mail me a picture: me@antsmith.net

Ideally the picture will show yourself (especially face) demonstrating what you believe your penis size to be like.

An explanation of the picture will help as well (in the example he said to me "Big Guy, small instrument" so it was easy to see what he meant and to add the funny text to the picture).

I also need to know your name as you'd like it to appear in the credit roll.

All sizes welcome, I want to represent the 'normal distribution'!

Here's an interesting article on  phallic symbolism that might help get you thinking:
